sticky groundsel, Senecio viscosus

Sticky groundsel is one of those intruders that seems to want to be everyone's weed. It's kind of pretty in bloom, but do you remember the Peanuts character Pigpen? He could walk down the sidewalk and get dirty. This plant is covered by sticky hairs, so it can just stand there and get dirty. Whatever blows by sticks. On top of that, sticky stinks. So sticky groundsel may want to move in to any available opening, but it won't be welcome. It has been recorded in AK, CT, ID, IL, MA, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, WI, AB, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, SK, and on SPM. Beal Gardens, MSU, 7/26/14. Aster family, Asteraceae.
