pitted stripeseed, Piriqueta cistoides
A Piriqueta by any other name is a Piriqueta is a Piriqueta. And as with Gertrude's poem, the first Piriqueta is from someone's name. And a good one it is. Much better than pitted stripeseed. Now that these delicate flowers are becoming popular in gardens, we need something better than pitted stripeseed. And yes, I did struggle to find something to say about these flowers. Little or no lore is to be found. They're an inch or more across, and deserve better. Piriqueta is native to tropical America, including AL, FL, GA, and MS. It grows mostly in coastal plain flatwoods and scrub. Taylor Co FL, 7/8/18. Yellow alder family, Turneraceae.
