striped gentian, Gentiana villosa

A misnomer? Villosa means hairy. Striped gentian is smooth. Perhaps this was an early version of Moe and Larry's sidekick? I had been curious to see what part was hairy, and now that I have had a look, I'm in on the joke. In a previous time, people would use striped gentian to treat snakebite. In those times it was Sampson's snakeroot, and is still occasionally called that. Striped gentian grows in AL, DE, FL, GA, IN, KY, LA, MD, MS, NC, NJ, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, and WV. Scioto Co OH, 10/2/21. Gentian family, Gentianaceae.
