beautiful cinquefoil, Potentilla pulcherrima
Potentilla pulcherrima is very like P. gracilis, shares much of the same range, and is sometimes lumped into that species. There are no Native American uses listed for P. pulcherrima in the Native American Ethnobotany Database. Potentilla gracilis does show up. The Okanagan-Coville and Thompson people used that species for a variety of ailments. Can we assume P. pulcherrima was used in the same ways? Really don't know, but they would have to be very similar if not identical in any effects they might produce.. Beautiful cinquefoil grows in AZ, CA, CT, ID, MN, MT, NH, NM, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA, BC, MB, and SK. Summit Co CO, 6/17/13. Rose family, Rosaceae.
