mountain snowberry, Symphoricarpos rotundifolius
The flowers of mountain snowberry are more than a half inch long. It's first impression on this Easterner was that it might be a honeysuckle. The second impression was that it was going to be damned hard taking a picture of it there on that windy mountain. This was the best I could do. Getting close up was out of the question. Anyway, these pretty flowers turn into centimeter sized white berries very much like our smaller flowered eastern snowberry. They're edible but not tasty. The Kayenta people used some part of the plant to help with sore throats. Mountain snowberry grows in AZ, CA, CO, ID, NM, NV, TX, and UT. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Montrose Co CO, 6/21/13. Honeysuckle family, Caprifoliaceae.
