John Charles, Hyptis verticillata
John Charles? So far all I've found out about that name is a Welsh footballer. Don't think that's perthnasol. Hyptis verticillata, on the other hand, has a history of traditional medical use going back to the Mayan culture. It has been used as an antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, antisecretory, and hormone modulator, and is said to have anti-cancer, acaricidal, insecticidal and molluscicidal abilities. There are no doubt interesting and active chemicals that have been isolated from John Charles. Herbal literature seems to use activity and effectiveness as synonyms, making it a little difficult to tell to what degree those chemicals help us. John Charles is a large branching herb you are likely to encounter in FL. Lake Co FL, 10/20/15.
