bigbract vervain, Verbena bracteata

OK, so bigbract vervain has bracts twice as long as the flowers. But bigbract? When those bracts are a quarter inch? This is a sprawling plant of poor soils in open areas. You're most likely to see it along a sidewalk or in an abandoned lot. They make good targets of opportunity, like this one by the lot at the Jackson Amtrak station. Bigbract vervain is a native, probably now spread beyond whatever its original range was and now in every state except AK, DE, HI, NH and RI, and in AB, BC, MB, ON, and SK. Jackson Co MI, 8/18/21. Vervain family, Verbenaceae.
