Miquel's mazus, Mazus miquelii

Miquel's mazus is a sprawling plant that spreads by rooting at nodes. It makes a good ground cover in damp spots. And then it jumps into wild spots, mostly anthropogenic areas. Aha! Another good word. So many, so little time! And of course we can't pass up that good word for man made conditions without mentioning climate change. Turn off your lights, folks! And plant lots of green things, even if they are a little creepy like mazus. Miquel's version has been reported from DE, LA, MA, ME, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, SC, TN, VA, and WV. I've seen it but not collected a voucher specimen in OH. Matthaei Garden UM, Washtenaw Co MI, 5/18/14. Lopseed family, Phrymaceae.
