dwarf raspberry, Rubus pubescens

Is dwarf raspberry a raspberry? The fruit is bright red and tart. But the fruit is firmly fastened to the receptacle. You can't pull it off and get that nice clean thimble effect. It's more like a blackberry, where it clings to the receptacle and you just have to eat the whole thing. Some people just avoid the question and call these dewberries. Dewberries are generally low growing as this plant is, but other dewberries have dark fruit and features of blackberries. I'll settle for dwarf raspberry, and look for them in low spots in conifer or oak woods. I keep watching for a perfect flower, but these specialize in irregular, often droopy petals. Another variation! Nature's endless theme. Dwarf whatever-it-is grows in AK, CA, CO, CT, IA, ID, IL, IN, MA, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, all provinces, and on SPM. Lenawee Co MI, 5/19/14.
