Japanese snowball, Viburnum plicatum
Japanese snowball has been a popular Viburnum for ornamental plantings. In many cultivated varieties the flowers are all changed to the large sterile form only seen around the outside here. This particular plant is a bit of an origin story for this website. We had a friend who came to gardening late, but found real joy from her efforts. She was the first to receive daily flower images when she fell ill and gardening was no longer possible. The hope then and now is that these are a bright spot, whatever the day may bring. Japanese snowball has been reported wild in CT, DE, MA, MD, MI, NY, OH, OR, and PA. Cultivated, Lenawee Co MI, 5/27/13. Moschatel family, Adoxaceae.
