climbing milkvine, Matelea obliqua
These marvelous milkweed relatives were growing among the ticks at Lynx Prairie. Since I didn't yet know about the ticks I could totally enjoy shooting a new flower. Milkvine is a clambering or in this case sprawling plant. Wiki notes that they are uncommon through their range and occur in low densities. There were certainly plenty of them at Lynx. These flowers are about an inch across. Climbing or limerock milkvine occurs in AL, DE, GA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MO, MS, NC, OH, PA, TN, VA, and WV. Lynx Prairie Preserve, Adams Co OH, 6/11/22. Dogbane family, Apocynaceae.
