redring milkweed, Asclepias variegata

Right there! The pollen goes right there! Doesn't that almost have to be the function of the horns on a milkweed flower? Like I say when someone suggests what I should do, "Supervision is necessary!" Although here, to a human eye, things can get a little ambiguous. Are the horns pointing to the center, or part of a star coming out of the center? Redring or white milkweed doesn't really leave much to chance. They grow mostly in open woods or wooded borders, and you just can't miss them. From a distance the bright balls almost looked artificial. These were in Shawnee State Forest, my second stop on last week's milkweed foray. Redring grows in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WV, and ON. Sciotto Co OH, 6/11/22. Dogbane family, Apocynaceae.
