cedar sage, Salvia roemeriana
Cedar sage is native to the cedar brakes of Texas, Mexico, and according to one source, Arizona. This striking plant has become popular in hardiness zones 7-9, where it self seeds and can form attractive patches. The plants get about a foot tall. Ferdinand von Roemer (1818-1891) was a German geologist who spent a year and a half in Texas and wrote a treatise on the chalk formations there.
