blackfoot daisy, Melampodium leucanthum

This is blackfoot daisy or plains blackfoot from a Texas roadside. It's well adapted to that habitat and other dry open places. High Country Gardens touts it as a good rock garden plant, and no doubt that's true if you're far enough south. Their low tufted habit should fit right in. They say at least zone 5. If you go shopping, watch out for yellow flowered species, which are more commonly offered. Blackfoot daisies are native to AZ, CO, KS, NM, OK, and TX. Travis Co TX, 4/17/22. Aster family, Asteraceae.
