tropical chickweed, Drymaria cordata

Tropical chickweed is a weak trailing plant that can form large patches in areas where it has little competition. Those patches earn it the other common name of white snow. It may also be drymary, West Indian chickweed, golondrina, or no doubt many other names around the tropical world. The greens are edible, and the plant may have antibiotic and antitussive value. Tropical chickweed is native to the American tropics and possibly sub-saharan Africa and our more tropical states. Elsewhere in the tropics it is an introduction. We have it in FL, GA, HI, LA, and MS. Polk Co FL, 3/18/16. Pink family, Caryophyllaceae.
