Richardson's sedge, Carex richardsonii

We celebrate what sedges do for our wetlands. But of course they seek out other opportunities. Richardson's sedge likes sandy or rocky areas, often growing with oaks. Here in Michigan it is somewhat rare and is listed as a special concern species. It also grows in IA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MN, ND, NY, PA, SD, VT, WY, AB, BC, MB, NT, ON, QC, and SK. Mackinac Co MI, 5/27/17. Sedge family, Cyperaceae.
