harvestlice, Agrimonia parviflora

Agrimony? Aggravating? Same root word? Might as well be for any of us with fur, feathers, or clothes. At the base of the flowers you can see the developing hooks that make the seeds seem like lice. This is the smallest flowered and fruited species of Agrimony, but makes up for that in quantity. According to Wiki harvestlice have moved from aggravating to noxious in some states' weed listings. That's a little surprising because this species prefers damp ground where agriculture might fear to tread. Those of us that hang out in fens and flood plains see a lot of harvestlice in AL, AR, CT, DE, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WA, WV, and ON. Lucas co OH, 8/9/13. Rose family, Rosaceae.
