We enjoy our Michigan penstemons. We have three common species and a few others. But as one goes west, there are no words! Colorado alone has about 60 species. In Michigan we like to think we have, from north to south, a good variety of habitats. Rocky Mountain high people would laugh. Out there each peak can be its own habitat. Populations of plants are easily isolated, and have evolved into many species and varieties. I could happily spend a season just hunting western penstemons. I've already shot quite a few (one too many according to my passengers), and you will see them as we go along.
