Hope springs eternal.  Hope seems to be the greatest part of herbalism.  White dogtooth violet was used for an amazing list of ailments; gout (I wish!), healing wounds, contraception, swellings, tumors, scrophulous ulcers, intestinal ulcers and tumors, dropsy, hiccups, vomiting, or contradictorily, to cause vomiting.  Credit Wikipedia for this list.  One can understand why those suffering from that list hoped for relief.  I hope they weren't all disappointed.

White dogtooth violet often appears in patches.  It is very attractive with dramatic little flowers about a inch long, and mottled leaves.  The dried leaves and bulbs are at least theoretically edible.  Considering the list above, I'll try them when I see them in the grocery.
