Like most historically important plants, chicory has picked up a long list of common names.  Mom always called them blue sailors.  Some of the others are blue daisy, blue dandelion, blueweed, bunk, coffeeeweed, cornflower, hendibeh, horseweed, radicchio, ragged sailors, succory, wild-bachelor's-buttons, wild endive, and witloof.  If you watch closely with one eye, keeping the other on the road, you will catch sight of an occasional white or pink flowered chicory.  This popular plant can now be found throughout the temperate world, and into some drier tropics.
