I have always been entertained by this view of the habitat of fivenerve sunflowers. That row of rock about a third of the way up the image? That's actually a 2700-foot deep canyon! Does anyone else remember the old westerns where fleeing cowboys or stampeding cattle suddenly come to a cliff? Well, pardner, this would be it. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison offers a lot more scenic views, but none appeal more to this little kid who once enjoyed all those Saturday morning westerns.
