I called this the other fringed gentian, which it is to us here in the east. In fact there are nine species across the continent. There used to be a nice population of these near here. That area is now a subdivision. They were allowed to build there because they created a new artificial wetland. But they have not replaced the gentians, orchids, and other interesting plants that were originally there. Indians used this as a blood purifier. I don't know (but wonder) how that was expected to work.
