You'll note that goldenclub is listed for protection in a number of states in its northern range.  It's important to protect plant populations at the fringes.  If that doesn't happen, the boundaries will get ever smaller.  The federal government provides protection for species that are in trouble throughout their range.  It is up to the states to do the job of protecting the borders.  Some do, some don't.  AK, AL, AR, CO, DE, ID, KS, LA, MS, MT, ND, OK, SC, SD, UT, WV, and WY do not have state systems to identify and protect species of local concern.  Too bad there's not a closer relationship between conservatives and conservation.
