I REALLY focus on wildflowers. Driving through Seney National Wildlife Area, I spotted a patch of swamp candles. This would be my first chance to photograph them digitally. I turned around and pulled off. Only after getting out of the car did I see the sandhill cranes. You tell me, which is the more obvious? The cranes or the flowers. I got my pictures even though one of the cranes didn't give an inch. I worked within about five feet of it. Whatever they were finding to eat there in the mud must have been tasty.
