Snowdrops are native in Europe from the Ukraine and Turkey west to France and Spain. They've become naturalized farther northwest, in Iran, Israel and Syria, and in the British Isles and Ireland where they have snowdrop garden tours. Galanthus contains a chemical that can help moderate the symptoms of Alzheimer's. It also contains an agglutinin that has been genetically modified into potatoes. But these potatoes appear to have caused damage in lab rats, and remain controversial at best.
