Here's a look at Palmer's penstemon foliage.  Another reason it makes a good garden plant.  This one grew on a roadside bank.  It was a good stop, unlike the mat penstemon.  This time I wasn't trying to apply the brakes on a gravelly slope leading to a drop off.  None the less, I suppose the rest of the traveler's on that trip were just as happy to be back in town.
