Spotted hawkweed is treated here as Hieracium maculatum.  Some authorities include it with the unspotted H. lachenalii.  In Flora of North Americaa, H. maculatum is not mentioned, and H. lachenalii is included in H. vulgatum.  Very confusing.  Which may be why Wikipedia says spotted hawkweed is a weed in Canada.  The Eurasian hawkweeds are here, and a thorn in the side of botanical purists in multiple ways.  In this image you can see the purple spots on the leaves.  Now, off to take the kids to schoool again!
