Sweet cicely is a widespread species, and almost anyone who has strolled through the autumn woods has helped spread it. The knee high plants inevitably stab your clothes with their hard dart shaped fruit. They'll ride along for a while, but as burs go they're relatively easily brushed off by other passing plants. The anise flavor is less strong than actual anise. This plant was used by Indians and pioneers for flavoring, and for a variety of medicinal needs.
