Goldenseal was used by the Cherokee, Iroquois and Micmac tribes to treat cancer, skin, eye,  and ear problems, for digestive issues, as a stimulant, tonic, carminative, anti-diarrheal, emetic, febrifuge, and for heart, liver, and lung illnesses.  Makes you appreciate modern medicine.  I suppose as long as we can't quickly cure every mallady, herbal hopes will persist.  And someone will be using this as an anti-diarrheal while another is hoping it's an emetic.
