We just had a note from Tim about his opportunity to rescue some goldenseal. Rescues are an important aspect of conservation, be they plants or animals. Long ago, I had the same opportunity as Tim, when a local woodlot was about to become a dirt bike track. The three listed species there, goldenseal, Virginia cowslip, and toadshades were certainly garden worthy. That chance turned out really well, because gardens benefitted, and the dirt bike guy got called up to the military. The woodlot, with all its species, is still there. So, if you ever have an opportunity to participate in a rescue, dig right in!
