Here's an older shot from the same location. Goose Creek Grasslands is a Michigan Nature Association preserve in the Irish Hills. It's near Cement City, which makes sense because this plant and cement factories share a common environmental factor - marl. When the Goose Creek acquisition was in the works, an adjacent property was also being considered. Unfortunately, someone went into it with ORVs and destroyed that area.
While white lady-slipper is rare or protected across its range, it is no longer listed federally. There are now quite a few preserves that include this species, and it is reasonably well protected.
