Until now, the Michigan invasion of dog-strangling vine has been following freeways. This week it came to Ives Preserve. One can picture a seed blowing into a nook or cranny of a vehicle, or even a person, at another spot. Then riding here, ultimately taking root near a utility shed in the Preserve. It was then dug up, roots and all, and showed up in a bucket in my garage. Not to worry, Winston. There will be no strangling. It is now mulch, since it had not yet produced seeds. Except for a specimen headed to the University of Michigan Herbarium, where it will record the Lenawee County arrival in perpetuity.
