THe pollination plan for partridge-berry is called pin and thrum.  This curious label means that with some flowers the pistil is much longer than the stamens, in others the stamens are longer.  Here you have the pin.  The inital image was the thrum.  This system works to promote cross pollination.  Partridge-berry is sometimes used as a shade garden ground cover.  This was a frequent medicinal plant for Indians.
