Tapertip onions

Tapertips grow in open rocky sites where they can form striking purple carpets of flowers.  By the time they bloom, leaves are mostly finished for the season.  This species was a popular food for western Indians.  All parts were eaten, including the seeds.  The flavor of the bulbs was a little too strong if you had someting else to eat, so they were often left to bloom again.
