Orange fringed orchid always makes me think of chances missed. Back around 1980 an older gentleman stopped by my booth at an Ann Arbor Art Fair. We talked photography and plants. He had a property in Waterloo that had orange fringed orchids, and invited me to visit. Before I got around to it, I saw a front page item in the Ann Arbor paper about his death. It turned out he was Indiana Jones! He spent most of his long life in anthropological adventures in various places, but mostly Central Asia. He had a vast collection of stuff from his trips, ultimatly to be split by the Conservancy and the University. So I missed a chance at my Holy Grail flower. But even more, what a fascinating man he would have been to talk with! Sadly, movies have intervened, and the only name I remember him by now is Jones. If only . . .
