Here's one reason these plants are so successful. The pistils of each ovary lengthen, and develop a hook on the end. The seeds then grab any passing critter and ride along. Camels in it's namesake Aleppo, or Bobs in Michigan, it doesn't discriminate. I'm a little surprised it hasn't found a way to the southern hemisphere.
