A little farther along a trail that day, these spent flower heads were glistening in the sun. Stuff in this season can be serious ID puzzles. But it helps if you already know what grows there. Real small, close together, aster family flower heads? Has to be Ohio goldenrod. So knowing it wasn't too frustrating, but getting what I was seeing into the camera was impossible. They only gleamed if you looked straght on. A little bit of an angle, and they became drab. Try for a straight on close up, and there was my shadow. Boost the contrast on the computer, and it's a little better. But still not the shiny attraction of the real thing.
