When my grandson Drew was about 2 years old, we sometimes went to the mall ice cream shop and split a strawberry shake. Soon after, affectionate interactions became difficult as his autism appeared. Day before yesterday I picked him up early from school, and we had time to kill before his sister got out. We went to McDonald's, and I had a strawberry shake. I mentioned those old times, but he had little reaction. Then yesterday morning he asked me if we could go to the mall for a strawberry shake. What a moment!
