This milkweed has slightly shorter horns, and could be a hybrid. Which brings us back to jackalopes. I had to throw in the jackalope just for my sister. The first time we traveled west together was my first jackalope quest. The quest was to convince her they were real. All the tourist stops and I worked on it for days. Finally, there was a post card that described in great detail how the photographer set up the shot. And it had an exhaustive description of the camera, lenses, and settings that had been required. I think for just a moment she bought it! Or else she figured out how to get her brother to shut up about it. That summer was no doubt my first glimpse of showy milkweed, somewhere out toward the Black Hills or the Badlands.
