Here's a coatbutton with lighter bracts behind the flowers. Coatbuttons now occur in various tropical areas around the world. In India it has been used as an anticoagulant, antifungal and insect repellant, and has been used to treat boils, blisters, cuts, liver disorders, gastritis and heartburn.
Alabama and South Carolina have regulations to list and control weeds and potential weeds. They do not have regulations to list and protect threatened and endangered species. Curious!
