My first objective at the Nivale Preserve was Walter's violet, a rarity. Here it is in full bloom. Really! It does have beautiful blue flowers. But it also has self-fertilizing flowers that never open. I think that's what we see here. It's sort of full of itself! Most if not all violets do this, and these flowers can appear throughout the season, as late as September or October. Interesting, but I was hoping for some of those blue flowers.
