What's going on with this Bidens?
These beggar-ticks were growing among a patch of tickseed-sunflowers. That species does have ray flowers, earning it the sunflower name. I thought these might be a hybrid between the tickseed sunflowers and purplestem beggar-ticks. The number of rays varied from none to five. Are beggar-ticks becoming more interesting? Looking them up later, it turns out that many species of beggar-ticks occasionally flash some ray flowers for us. Suddenly, beggar-ticks got a lot more interesting. Been keeping my eyes open for beggar-ticks rays ever since.
