A visit to Ives Preserve.
Took a walk around Ives Fen yesterday. Beautiful day. This is the time of year when showy flowers start to appear. Earlier in the year it has mostly been grasses and sedges. Those shorter wind-pollinated plants need open space. Now taller species are reaching up to compete for pollinators. The object of yesterday's trek was a new species for the preserve. Professor Crail from U of Toledo found a bladderwort! But first we'll enjoy the flowers along the way. Ninebark blooms jump right up at you. This shrub is conveniently head high, giving us a nice blue background.
