Flower arranging with the aster family

Aster family flowers are arranged in radiate, discoid, liguliflorous, disciform, or radiant patterns. Nice neat categories. Of course it's not that simple or consistent, but describing them has to start from there. Radiant heads have small flowers in the center, and flowers with a long limb around the outside. The long-limbed ones are actually tubular flowers that have opened up along one side. What better example than an aster? Short's aster to be specific.
