sweet alyssum, Lobularia maritima

This image makes sweet alyssum look a little larger than life. These flowers are only about an eighth of an inch each. But it is not shy. It has spread around the globe from its Eurasian origin. In this instance, it was growing in pavement cracks in a parking lot. Sweet alyssum may be in your garden, planted more for its appearance than for its edibility. It now has gone assertively wild in all states except AK, AR, KY, ND, OK, SD, and TN, and in BC, NS, ON, and QC. Lenawee Co MI, 11/8/11. Mustard family, Brassicaceae.
