This fox grape avoided eye contact for many years. I must have walked by it dozens of times, always looking in another direction. It's growing along the south boundary of Ives Preserve. Fox grape is a threatened species here in Michigan. Since that first recognition, it has thrived. This year it is virtually a wall of fruit. Yuck! The most sour grape in my experience. These vines have now spread along a hundred foot stretch of that roadside.
