Cup plant (Silphium perfoliatum) is one of our rare and threatened local species. Since I first found it in Lenawee in the 1980s, it's numbers have been increasing. But only because it's being planted - in a park, at a church, in front of the Environmental Education Center, probably elsewhere. And now it has come to Ives. It is sparingly planted in one of the prairies, and seems to be taking hold. But at the original site where I found it, there isn't nearly as much of it as before.
