This sedge hunt was for plantainleaf sedge. I had seen the wide winter leaves last year, and hoped to add that species to the known flora of Lenawee county. When I saw them I remembered that one of the identification keys was red at the base of the leaves. Turns out plantainleaf is one with red. These were just white bear sedge, already known in our area. But no walk in the wilds is a disappointment, right?
